Jose Chirinos was born in Maracaibo, Venezuela in 1981. From an early age, he felt attracted to the music of his country, especially those more rhythmic styles. At the age of 5, he began to practice, in a self-taught way, the traditional percussion instruments of his hometown, such as the tambora.

Parallel to percussion, he felt attracted to the guitar; however, it was not until he was 15 years old that he began to study this instrument through the accompaniment of traditional Venezuelan rhythms as well as Caribbean and Brazilian rhythms such as Son, Cuban trova, Samba, Bossa nova, Baião, Maracatú, etc.

At the age of 17, he began practicing the flamenco guitar as a way of exploring the technical and musical resources of the instrument from his Venezuelan and Caribbean culture. To deepen these resources even more, he began to work with the flamenco dance academies in his city, accompanying the classes and arranging the music for the end-of-course presentations of each school, as well as having an active participation in the cultural activities of his native city. In 2018, due to the political, social and economic crisis in Venezuela, he was forced to emigrate from his country, arriving in the city of Atlanta in order to continue exercising his vocation: bringing art and culture to the people and communities through the guitar.

During his stay in the United States, he’s worked with cultural companies in the city such as La Candela Compañía Flamenca and Producciones Berdole directed by flamenco dancers and cultural managers Ania Bartelmus and Julie Moon respectively, who have had an active participation in the communities of Atlanta in cultural and educational activities in schools.
