The French Connection
In an annual tradition, The Georgia Philharmonic join forces with Michael O’Neal Singers, a chorus of 150, to perform vocal works with a symphony orchestra. This year, the orchestra and chorus perform Polunec’s Gloria. Premiered in 1961 by the Boston Symphony Orchestra and Chorus Pro Musica, Gloria remains not only Polunec’s most famous work, but one of the best known choral masterpieces of the century. Like John Rutter, Poulenc’s harmonies are both modern and moving. But that’s only half of the program. Tom Alderman, Atlanta’s organ master, performs the Saint-Saens Symphony No. 3, the “Organ Symphony”.
