Artist’s Statement:

At the heart of this artwork lie anamorphic flowers, their graceful forms reaching towards the heavens. Each blossom symbolizes the enduring presence of the parental figure, gracefully overseeing the tender growth of their beloved child. Just as a flower emerges from a humble seed, the vibrant hues adorning each petal reflect the unique individuality of both parent and child, blossoming side by side. Mirrored heads, delicately positioned within the sculpture, serve as portals to infinite perspectives, reflecting the ethereal beauty of the surrounding sky and flora. These mirrored surfaces create a multiplicity of individual viewpoints, inviting viewers to immerse themselves in the diverse tapestry of their environment. Each reflection represents a unique vantage point, encapsulating the varied experiences and perspectives that shape our understanding of the world we inhabit.

Artist’s Statement:

Like Flock Rising from the earth with an almost elemental force, “Flock” emerges as a whirlwind of creative energy, mirroring the raw power of a swirling tornado. The sculpture’s organic form evokes a sense of motion frozen in time, as if capturing a fleeting moment when the very essence of flight is harnessed and transformed into a tangible presence. Within this captivating vortex, a multitude of birds takes flight, their wings interwoven in a graceful ballet, encircling one another in a majestic display of unity and harmony.

About the Artist

Jeffry Loy has been active in the Atlanta art scene for over 25 years. He graduated from the Atlanta College of Art in 1996 with a BFA in Sculpture and Photography and MFA in Sculpture from SCAD Atlanta in 2014. Loy has worked from his studio in The BComplex, an artist cooperative located in southwest Atlanta, since 1999. Loy, an esteemed artist, is renowned for his remarkable approach to public art. With a deep appreciation for the natural world, he specializes in crafting botanical sculptural environments that seamlessly harmonize with and reflect their surroundings, whether they be the lush landscapes of nature or man-made architectural structures.

Loy’s artistic vision revolves around accentuating the organic beauty and texture of his projects, often incorporating meticulously hand-forged elements using traditional blacksmithing techniques. In his creative process, Loy prefers to fabricate with mild steel, stainless steel, brass, and copper. These carefully selected mediums not only withstand the test of time but also thrive in the dynamic, high-traffic outdoor environments where his works typically reside. Loy’s craftsmanship transcends the boundaries of conventional sculpture, as he explores the intersection of botanical inspiration and artistic expression. From his fanciful botanical sculptures, captivating lighting installations, to site-specific public works, Loy consistently weaves together his passion for botany and his sculptural expertise. He skillfully integrates figurative sculptures with botanical bodies and elements, infusing them with life and evoking a sense of wonder.

Employing a unique blend of traditional blacksmithing techniques and modern technology, Loy honors the rich history and heritage of blacksmithing while simultaneously pushing the boundaries of the art form. Each new creation becomes a catalyst for his artistic growth, inspiring him to surpass the limits of his ideas and techniques. Loy’s artistic journey is an ever-evolving exploration of the intricate relationship between art, nature, and human craftsmanship. Through his profound dedication and unwavering commitment to his craft, he continues to leave an indelible mark on the world of public art, captivating viewers and imbuing their surroundings with a touch of botanical magic.
