Swami Gone Bananas at Gypsy Rose

For over 20 years, Swami Gone Bananas has proven to be one of the city’s finest and most watched ‘cover’ bands. Even though they do many of their own songs, Swami still likes to call them a cover group. Swami (founder Mike Schulman) formed this band after friend and Grateful Dead founder Jerry Garcia died in 1995. Swami was (in 1995) and still is a graphic designer for the Dead with over 100 T-Shirt and stage pass designs. Swami always said that the Grateful Dead were the best cover group of all time. When Jerry died Swami formed Swami Gone Bananas to ‘cover’ the Atlanta area. The Swami Band played the “Circus Tent’ at Buckhead’s ‘Mike & Angelos’ for almost 10 years becoming an institution in Atlanta’s entertainment district. When nightclubs were replaced with city expansion, Swami Gone Bananas moved to Atlanta’s famous Northside Tavern. With years of performances in the Tavern under their belt, Swami Gone Bananas continues to be Atlanta’s “Good Times Icons’.

Want to really commit to learning the full art and science of soap making? Register for four soap making classes, offered four weekday evenings from 6 PM-8:30 PM at the new Roswell, GA studio.

Students will leave this soap series with comprehensive skills and knowledge to make soap to start a soap making business, or become a proficient soap maker. You will receive a certificate of completion for 12.5 hours of soap instruction with a master soap maker.

We will start off Thursday, September 5 with Soap Making Made Simple where you will learn everything you need to know to safely create a beautiful variety of vegan handmade soaps with food grade organic oils & lye plus your choice of herbs, essential oils (or phthalate free fragrances), colorants, clay, butters, exfoliating nutrients, oats, honey…so many choices. You will leave with 2 to 4 POUNDS of soap (time permitting) which is approximately 7-14 bars of soap (depending on how thick you slice your bars).

Tuesday, September 10th we will be building on your knowledge and skills making Salt Soaps! You will make spa quality, long lasting, mineral rich, detoxifying, exfoliating, & balancing salt soaps. These soaps last four times longer than regular soaps. They require a lot of soap making knowledge to make successfully. I will demonstrate what to do and NOT to do to create the perfect salt soap. You will leave with approximately 4 pounds of salt soap. If you have single cavity soap molds please bring them to this class.

Thursday, September 19th, we will be making soap with uncommon and challenging ingredients. You will be be ready to step it up and learn the art of luxurious moisture-rich Milk Soaps & More! Learn how to avoid the common pitfalls of milk soaps/unusual ingredients and master this art with confidence. We will learn how to use yogurt, milk alternatives, beer, fruits/veggies, honey, aloe, and herbal teas. I will teach you a new method with tips and tricks, saving you time and changing your soap making game in an amazing way. You will leave with approximately four pounds (time permitting) of unique soap.

Thursday, September 26th we will finish our special soap making series with my most advanced class, Secrets to Swirling & Soap Formulating. You will learn the secrets to formulating your own recipe for all the benefits you desire in your soap. Learn the properties of oils and how they contribute to lather, hardness, trace, & more. You will learn how to calculate your very own soap recipes, based on sap values, temperatures, and desired soap qualities- from poison ivy soap to facial bar. Tap into how small details can make a big difference. Let me show you how to formulate recipes that are slow-moving and perfect for professional looking swirls. Leave with 2 pounds of soap.

You leave this series with approximately 12-14 pounds of soap, enough comprehensive soap making skills to launch a business like a boss, a certificate of completion, informative handouts with top notch recipes, Q&A with a master soap maker, discounted rates on future soap making classes offered on Thursdays, work study options, and a whole lot of fun. This series sells out quickly. If you did not make it in time, please email me to be on the wait-list in case of a cancellation or to pre-register for the next soap series before it is posted.
